Whitby's '199 steps', England Shot from the bottom of both the steps and the old cart track I was keen to use the lovely patterned stone floor in my shot. I waited until dusk and shot at 'magic hour' when the sun has set but the night had not quite taken hold. This short period allowed me to shoot the scene with a lovely deep, inky, blue sky whilst also capturing the tungsten lighting effect on the stonework.
Seen by daylight, this scene has no obvious photographic potential-its grey and bland and, ironically given the distances I sometimes travel to find a location, it was taken from the entrance to my B&B. I'd simply strolled past, totally oblivious to it's hidden character, many times each day. Credit must in fact go to my wife for spotting this shot first with her own 'eagle eye' for a composition.
