Storm clouds clearing-Sydney, Australia Steel grey clouds hung over the city the entire day and so I spent my time exploring some potential viewpoints, albeit painfully and slowly after a motorcycle accident a few days earlier in northern Malaysia.
So leaden were the clouds that I didn't hold out much hope for any evening light. By sundown I was reduced to hanging around the steps of the Opera House in a state of depression and hoping for some divine intervention in a way that only a landscape photographer can when there is little prospect of any decent light.
For once though, patience paid off. I began to notice the clouds starting to clear so I hobbled painfully along the path from the Opera House to Mrs McQuarrie's chair and set my camera up just in time to catch the deep colours in the last veil of cloud that remained in the sky. Strangely, even the pain from my stitched up injuries seemed to ebb away with the thrill of catching this unexpected light show. Needless to say it returned with a vengeance the morning after!
