Field Notes

Dawn is often special; calm, solitude and full of the energy and expectation of something new unfolding, as opposed to the retreat of the day closing at sunset. Not that this guarantees special light, and certainly not in the Outer Hebrides! But here, on the very North Western fringe of the UK, special things can happen despite the unpredictable weather and I enjoyed exploring this granite foreshore searching out texture and lines in the rock that would lead my eye to the distinctive shape of Ceapabhal across the Sound of Taransay as the pink fingers of pre dawn light painted the sky in soft pastel shades. F16, ISO 50, 5 seconds.
