Field Notes

At first, the pre dawn light was too low to light this view from Farthing Common and the flat shade left me struggling for inspiration. However, experience tells me to wait and see how the rising sun might cast some light across the views before I move on. With the sun out of frame to the left the side light has produced pleasing shadows which offer a sense of depth to the scene. My wide angle lens has been used to encompass the foreground at my feet and allow the eye to move easily through the image. I like capturing trees bathed in early or late light set against a shadowy background so careful positioning of the elements in the scene was essential. Canon EOS 5DMKIII, 16-35mm lens f11 1/15 ISO100.
