Field Notes

This part of Kent is key to perhaps Turner's most well known work; The Fighting Temeraire. For it was across this piece of water that she was towed on her journey to the breakers yard and where Turner depicted her against the mournful sunset. This gun tower is orignally from the Napoleonic era and would have been here when Turner visited as the once mighty man o war was tugged along on that serene and evocative evening.
