Field Notes

Hollowshore, on Faversham Creek is a wonderful place of peace and solitude. It adjoins Oare Marshes and is charecterised by the boatyard that uses the tidal creek for safe anchrage. Many of the boats are traditional east coast craft; Thames Barges being the most notable ones. Put together, these elements are fun to photograph with plenty of angles from either side of the creek. Here, I waited for high tide on a calm day to help with mirror like reflections. The sky had the Turner-esque qualities I was looking for and this guided my composition so as to emphasise the grandeur of the sky and the water reflecting it and positioning the vessels smaller and centre stage within this great elemental setting.
