Field Notes

Thanet has a lot of light and during summer the sun rises and sets at opposite ends of the beach at Margate offering lots of photo potential. I love the sea pool situated on the beach at Margate; with the tide just right it fills with water and has the sea around it allowing for a variety of creative approaches. Here, I used a Lee Big Stopper to provide a long shutter speed to capture the movement in the clouds and provide a correspondingly complimentary calm, still water beneath. With the graceful arc of the pool leading the eye into the shot I just needed some colour in the sky and the dawn light provided that.EOS 5DMKIII, 60secs, f8 at ISO 100.
