Field Notes

The classic shots are fun and hard to resist. I always feel that once I've got these 'safe' shots in the can I can work more unusual compositions or angles but to not some away with a 'classic' from such a location is a shame, in my view. That said, there is often few other ways of doing such a good job of lighting and composition as the classics; that's why they have become familiar and well trodden view points. This particular shot was captured on Fuji Velvia with a cooling filter to add some strength to the cool tones at dusk. Before the days of instant, digital, feedback on your work, getting the safe shots done was always a priority and it remained a challenge to ensure you exposed correctly before returning home. It's a long flight to go back and reshoot the same classic shot again after all...
